Plane Curves with AutoCAD

About the Author

Background of the creator of the AutoCAD Curves project.

Born in Illinois with an engineer-entrepreneur father, the author learned to operate machine tools as a youth until graduating as a chemistry major and starting medical school. Completing a general surgical residency at the University of Iowa, he completed a peripheral vascular fellowship in Cincinnati, at which time he learned of AutoCAD and adopted it when few other flexible illustration software options were available. The first use was to create digitized and labeled outlines of ultrasound images for a series of early vascular ultrasound atlases. College courses exposed him to math up through differential equations and LaPlace transforms along with linear algebra and other topics.

After a 20+ year career of surgical practice, followed by a 20 year stint as university faculty teaching both undergraduate and physician assistant students, he retired in 2023 and now works with his 5 sons and 5 daughters in a workshop we call "Incredibly Board LLC" on both woodworking and metalworking projects as a hobby.

The fascination with AutoCAD and AutoLISP began in 1985, but this old dinosaur still likes to bite off as much as he can chew. As Rush used to say, "having more fun than a human being should be allowed to have."
